What Your Consultation Is Really Telling Me
Share
Before I shampoo your hair…
Before I examine your scalp…
Before I recommend a single product…
I listen.
Some of the most valuable information I gather doesn’t come from a scalp scope or a product label. It comes from the conversation we have during your consultation.
Over the years, I’ve noticed certain concerns come up again and again—especially during the summer months.
Not because everyone has the same hair.
But because life, weather, routines, and habits affect our scalps in ways we don’t always recognize.
These are some of the things I hear most often.
“My scalp itches all the time.”
One of the first questions I ask is, “When did it start?”
An itchy scalp doesn’t always mean it’s dry. Sometimes it’s sweat. Sometimes it’s product buildup. Sometimes it’s sensitivity to a product. Sometimes it’s an underlying scalp condition that needs medical attention.
That’s why I never assume.
Your scalp has a story, and my job is to understand it before trying to solve it.
“My hair is breaking.”
Breakage is frustrating because it feels like your hair has stopped growing.
Most of the time, it hasn’t.
The hair is simply breaking faster than you can see the progress.
During your consultation, I’m thinking beyond the ends of your hair. I’m asking questions about your routine, your styling habits, your environment, and even how your scalp has been feeling.
Healthy hair doesn’t happen by accident. It grows from a healthy foundation.
“My silk press didn’t even last.”
I hear this every summer.
You leave the salon feeling amazing.
Then you walk outside…
And within minutes, humidity reminds you who’s really in charge.
Instead of blaming your hair, I start asking different questions.
Has your scalp been sweating more than usual?
Are products building up around your new growth?
Has the weather changed how your hair responds?
Sometimes the goal isn’t fighting the weather.
It’s helping your hair adapt to it.
“My scalp always feels dirty.”
This one catches people off guard.
Many guests tell me they shampooed their hair recently, but their scalp still feels heavy or uncomfortable.
That’s when we talk about something many people overlook.
A clean scalp and a balanced scalp aren’t always the same thing.
Sometimes your scalp isn’t asking to be shampooed more often.
It’s asking to be cleansed differently.
“My hair stays frizzy.”
Frizz has a way of taking all the blame.
But I often see it as information.
Your hair may be asking for moisture.
It may be responding to humidity.
Or it may simply be telling us that the routine you’ve been using no longer fits the season you’re in.
Hair changes.
Your routine should too.
“How do I protect my hair from the sun?”
This might be my favorite question because it tells me people are starting to think differently.
Most of us protect our face.
We protect our arms.
We protect our shoulders.
But the scalp?
We often forget it’s exposed skin.
Protecting your scalp isn’t about fear.
It’s about giving it the same care and attention you give the rest of your body.
The Consultation Isn’t About Selling Products
One thing I want every guest to know is this:
My consultation isn’t a sales pitch.
It’s a conversation.
I’m not listening for an opportunity to recommend another bottle.
I’m listening for clues.
Because sometimes the answer isn’t buying more.
Sometimes it’s simplifying.
Sometimes it’s changing one habit.
Sometimes it’s recognizing that what you’re experiencing belongs in a dermatologist’s office instead of a salon.
The more I understand your story, the better I can support your hair and scalp within the scope of professional cosmetic care.
Before We Talk About Your Hair…
Let’s talk about your scalp.
That’s where every consultation at PURH begins.
Not because every problem starts there. But because every healthy hair journey deserves a strong foundation.
